What is Structa?

Software for UK builders and the homeowners who hire them. A builder describes the job as he would text it to the client; Structa asks what an estimator would ask, prices every line in his rates, and the quote becomes the job: the buy list, the programme, the payment terms by stage and the client’s link. A homeowner sees a typical price for their job and asks builders near them. We are not a contractor or a broker.

What does it cost?

Accepted Answer

Nothing while we launch, for builders and homeowners, and no card. After that, quoting, sending, tracking and your page stay free. A builder pays only when he takes a homeowner’s job, in credits by the size of the job, from £5; 50% comes back as credit when he runs the job on Structa. No monthly fee to be listed. You get a month’s notice before anything is charged.

How do homeowners’ jobs reach me?

A homeowner describes their job and asks for builders near them. It shows under Jobs near you: the kind of work, the district, the typical price and when they want to start, never who they are. Take it and you get their name and contact. At most three builders get each job. A homeowner can also ask you by name from your page.

What is my page?

Accepted Answer

A public page with your name, the areas you work in, and your record: the jobs you tracked and finished on Structa, whether they finished on time and at the quoted price. A job counts when your client confirms the price from their link. Its photos and your client’s words show only if your client agrees.

Question 5

Can my jobs from before Structa count?

Accepted Answer

Yes, once the client confirms them. Upload your list of past jobs (any spreadsheet), and we email each client once to ask if you did the job. Every job a client confirms goes on your page and counts when homeowners ask for builders with a record. We never show your price or your client’s name.

Question 6

I’m a homeowner. How does it work?

Accepted Answer

Describe your job and answer a few questions; say “I’m not sure” to any of them. You see a typical price for your area as a range. That is a guide, not a quote. Then ask builders near you: your name and contact go only to the builders who take the job, at most three. If none can within 30 days, we close it and tell you, and your details are deleted 60 days after. It is free while we launch; later posting a job costs £1.99, refunded if no builder takes it.

Is it a quote or an estimate?

The document says which: every line is priced, and the last line says it is a cost estimate until the site says otherwise. You decide what to send.

Where do your numbers come from?

Accepted Answer

Every figure on a quote says which of these it came from: your own rates and prices, set once and used first; a published rate for the work, with regional factors by postcode; or a merchant’s list price with the date it was read, so you can see how old a figure is.

How are overhead and profit handled?

Accepted Answer

You set your own overhead-and-profit percentage in the editor and it is spread across every visible line. There is no hidden uplift and no separate margin line on the client’s document: the client sees one subtotal per work package, and the package totals reconcile against the quoted total. Contingency is held against the net subtotal, not added on top.

Can I edit a generated quote?

Yes. Every rate, quantity and prelim is editable in the editor, and a change can be said in words. Edits save as you go, and every change is kept against the engine’s baseline so you can defend the number on a call with your client.

What happens after the quote is sent?

Accepted Answer

The same record runs the job: the buy list grouped by supplier, the programme with dates from the day you start, the payment terms by stage, and the client’s link, which shows progress as you tick the work done. When it is finished, it goes on your page. Nothing is re-typed.

Question 12

Is my data private?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Your rates, prices, jobs, quotes and clients are yours and are never shown to another builder or to anyone outside the links you create. Your page shows only what you put on it and the jobs your clients agreed to show. We use what builders put in only in aggregated or de-identified form, to improve the engine and build further services; nobody can be identified from that.

Do you take payments?

Accepted Answer

No. Structa never takes, holds or moves your client’s money, and takes no cut of a job. Your payment terms, by stage, are written into the quote, and the client’s page says what is due under them as each stage is ticked done. The client pays you the way you agree with them.

Question 14

What are the risk notes?

Accepted Answer

What the engine flags before you price: an old house, tight access, a floor that may not be level, a wall that may need more than it looks. They go on the quote with the assumptions, so the client reads them before the work starts and a surprise on site is already written down.

Question 15

Can I use my own rates?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Set your day rate and your material prices with your supplier once; every quote and every buy list starts there and keeps what you change. The published rate stands in only where you have set nothing.

Can I get a refund?

Accepted Answer

Nothing is charged while we launch, and there is no subscription. When charging starts, a homeowner’s posting fee is refunded if no builder takes the job. If you hit a genuine fault (a client’s link broke, a quote did not load), email info@structa.build and we will sort it.
